The Malaysian Embassy here Monday filed a formal request to the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry for the repatriation of the remains of Azahari bin Husin, a top terrorist who was killed in a raid last week.
"The Foreign Affairs Ministry has forwarded the request to the police, which directly handles the case," Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Yuri Thamrin told reporters.
Two relatives of Malaysia-born Azahari arrived here Sunday and already talked with embassy officials for the repatriation.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda has earlier said Indonesian authorities is very likely to allow Azahari's relatives to bring home the body, but the matter should be decided by the police.
