Ilya Ilin of Kazakhstan and Lu Yong of China shone in the men's 85kg category as they clinched the gold and silver medals respectively to make a successful debut at the World Weightlifting Championships on Tuesday.
Ilin, 17-year-old, did not have a good start when he hoisted 170kg to place seventh in the snatch while 19-year-old Lu snatched 175kg to claimed the second place.
Ilin stormed into the jerk with an amazing lift at 216kg to rewrite the world junior record in the last attempt, 6kg more than the 19-year-old Lu's.
Ilin at last beat Lu at 386kg and Lu followed him with a total result of 385kg.
Aslambek Ediev of Russia won the bronze at 381kg.
Bugarian Turkileri Enver, Ilin's coach in Kazakhstan national team, showed full confidence with Ilin as he thought Ilin was one of the talents he had ever met.
"It was his first time to compete in the worlds and he brought me a gold medal." Enver said excitedly after the competition.
"I am confident with his future, because he is only 17 years old. He will switch to 94kg next World Championships, and we planned to win the gold medal in that category in the Beijing Olympic Games," Enver said.
"I still need improvement in my daily training, and I can beat him in the Beijing Olympic Games." Lu said.
Yuan Aijun of China, gold medalist in the Naitonal Games, failed to lift 212kg in the jerk to grab the gold. He finally stayed in the sixth place with a total of 378kg.
