The World Health Organization experts who came to probe three mysterious pneumonia cases in central China's Hunan Province, ended their two-day visit to the bird flu-hit county of Xiangtan, Wednesday.
One group of the expert team went to Song Xiangbo's home, China's third person with pneumonia that might actually be bird flu..
Song, 36-year-old schoolteacher cut his left hand when handling a chicken that may have died of bird flu. He lived 40 kilometers from Shebu Town, where a bird flu outbreak was reported in October.
The experts looked around Song's house and asked every detail about people who had contact with him.
Then they visited the disease control and prevention center in Xiangtan county, where they shared their latest research findings in fighting the deadly virus with local medical experts. They also reviewed the records of people who had contact with the three patients.
In addition, the disinfectant "84", a domestic brand used in the county's disease control and prevention center and an anti-viral oral solution used for the patients were also taken by WHO experts as samples.
"The purpose of our visit is to get a better understanding of the situation and learn what you have done and how you cope with the situation," said Julie Hall, a disease control expert overseeing WHO's fight against bird flu in China. "Your experiences will be valuable for China and other regions in the world facing the same problem," she said.
The experts group met with the other group who visited Xiangtan central hospital, where the patient was treated, and they left for Changsha on Wednesday afternoon.
The experts refused to release more information on their visit in Xiangtan and they planned to end their four-day visit in Hunan and leave for Beijing on Thursday.
