Dunhuang opens another five caves
font size

To relieve the pressure brought about by tourist concentration in the Summer and Autumn seasons on the preservation of the grottoes, divert and attract tourists during the Winter and Spring seasons, the Dunhuang Academy has adjusted the opening period of the museum and added new caves to the list for visit in order to regulate the seasonal imbalance of tourism in Mogao Caves.

It is learned that the newly opened caves include the No.290, No.296, No.407, No.196 and No.9. They belong to the period ranging from the Northern Zhou Dynasty to late Tang Dyansty and are of great artistic value and quite representative. Caves that have already been open to tourism remain available.

The Dunhuang Academy suggested that tourists come to Dunhuang Mogao Caves during the Winter and Spring seasons for not only there are fewer tourists during these seasons but the tourists can also enjoy the spacious room available for tour, plenty of time to listen to the guides, and admire the exquisite grottoes and statues. These make it the best season for a "tour of culture and arts" in Dunhuang.
