Thailand and China's Guangdong Province have extended their trade and economic cooperation with more trade contracts and agreements on investment amounting to 650 million US dollars signed Friday in Bangkok.
Endorsing trade contracts and agreements on various fields of investment -- such as automobiles, textiles, minerals and mining, construction, food, electrical and electronics industry -- took place at the opening ceremony of 2005 China Guangdong-Thailand Fair for Trade and Economic Cooperation at Bangkok's Sofitel Central Plaza Hotel.
Some 1,200 people attended the fair, including about 500 Thai businessmen and a Guangdong delegation of over 500 entrepreneurs and businesspersons from 189 enterprises led by Zhang Dejiang, secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, who presided over the opening ceremony together with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Industry Minister Suriya Jungrungreungkit
Zhang said imports and exports between Thailand and Guangdong as of 2004 accounted for 38 percent of China's trade with Thailand.
Mutual investment has increased annually, with over 580 enterprises having been established by Thai investors in Guangdong, at an accumulated direct investment of almost 500 million US dollars. Guangdong investment here amounts to some 65 million US dollars and a total turnover of 250 million US dollars in engineering projects and labor cooperation contracted by Guangdong enterprises, Zhang said.
