Five US soldiers were killed and five others wounded in two separate roadside bomb attacks in northern Iraq on Saturday, the US military said.

The soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division were killed when patrolling near Beiji, 250 km north of Baghdad, the US military said in a statement.

Another five US soldiers were also wounded in the two bombings, the statement said, adding that three of the injured were rushed to a US military hospital for medical treatment and that the other two returned to duty after treatment.

Over 2,080 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the US- led invasion in March, 2003.
