Fiorentina upsets AC Milan 3-1 for joint runner-up

Luca Toni scored two goals as Fiorentina ended AC Milan's eight-match winning streak in the Serie A with a 3-1 win.

Milan is now five points behind league leader Juventus and tied for second with Fiorentina. Juventus, which beat AS Roma 4-1 Saturday, has 33 points.

Inter Milan needed second-half goals from Luis Figo and Esteban Cambiasso to defeat Parma 2-0 at San Siro and retain fourth place, 10 points behind Juve.

Toni, who is expected to lead Italy at the next year's World Cup finals, scored the first goal in the 10th minute at Artemio Franchi stadium in Florence and added another in the 86th.

Denmark international Martin Jorgensen scored for Fiorentina in the opening minute of the second half, while Alberto Gilardino replied with Milan's only goal in the 24th.

Toni scored both goals with precise headers, converting Milan's defensive lapses to improve his league-leading total to 15.

Toni's second goal came minutes after the referee disallowed a diving header by Gilardino for a questionable foul.

At San Siro, Parma's defense held at bay Inter's Adriano, Figo and Julio Ricardo Cruz for 68 minutes.

Then Figo, who joined Inter from Real Madrid, scored his first Serie A goal with a curling shot and Cambiasso sealed the victory in the 81st with a lob into an open goal after Parma keeper Luca Bucci scrambled to recover from making a save on Adriano.

It was Parma's sixth consecutive road loss and Inter's first win in its last four.

Also on Sunday, Livorno beat Empoli 2-0 in a Tuscan derby to lift itself to 21 points; Palermo rallied to 2-2 at Treviso after giving up both goals in the first five minutes; Lecce stunned Siena 3-0 to climb out of last last place past Cagliari, which lost 3-1 at Reggina; Sampdoria scored second-half goals two minutes apart to beat Lazio 2-0 and stay in the upper half of the standings; and Chievo Verona and Ascoli drew 1-1.

In Saturday's other game, Udinese beat visiting Messina 1-0 on a late goal from Brazilian defender Felipe.
