A court in Munich sentenced Monday an Iraqi man to life in jail for murdering German fashion designer Rudolph Moshammer.
The defendant, identified only as Herisch A. by the court, was sentenced for murder and "robbery resulting in death," the Munich court said in an e-mailed statement.
The Iraqi man, an asylum-seeker, will not be eligible for parole after 15 years as is common for life imprisonment due to the crime's heinous nature, said the court.
He confessed to killing Moshammer with an electrical cable, saying the designer refused to pay him an arranged amount of 2,000 euros (2,360 US dollars) for sexual favors at Moshammer's home, German media has reported.
Moshammer, who designed for Arnold Schwarzenegger, now California governor, Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and tenor Jose Carreras among his other customers, was found strangled by his chauffeur in his villa near Munich in January.
The famous designer, nicknamed "Mosi" by some Germans, had since 1968 maintained a boutique on the Bavarian capital's Maximilianstrasse, Germany's most prestigious shopping street.
He died at 64.
