font size

A US soldier was killed in a roadside bomb attack targeting his vehicle during a combat action in western Iraq, the US military said on Tuesday.

"The soldier assigned to the 2nd Marine Division died after the bomb detonated near his vehicle on Monday near Habaniyah, 80 km west of Baghdad," the military said in a statement.

The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

The death has brought to over 2,090 the number of US military personnel who have died in Iraq since the US-led invasion to the country in March 2003, according to media tally.
