Canadian opposition parties unveiled a non-confidence motion on Wednesday, setting the stage for toppling the minority Liberal government led by Prime Minister Paul Martin next week.
The motion, which appears in the House of Commons order paper, will be tabled on Thursday by Conservative Party Leader Stephen Harper.
The motion, expected to be put to vote on Monday, condemns the Liberals for "arrogance" and "corruption", saying the government no longer has the confidence of the parliament.
Earlier this week, the House of Commons passed a motion moved by the New Democratic Party (NDP) calling for an election to be held on Feb. 13, to avoid a Christmas campaign. But the non- binding motion was ignored by the Liberals which have only 133 of 308 seats in the House.
The Conservatives, NDP and the bloc Quebecois have made it clear that if the Liberals reject the NDP motion they will bring them down by a non-confidence vote.
