Chinese FM spokesman on Japan's constitutional revision
font size

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Thursday that some Asian countries are much concerned about the revision of Japan's constitution.

Asked to comment on the constitutional revision draft presented by Japan's ruling party, Liu said that Japan's pursuance of peaceful development is not only in its own interest, but also conducive to safeguarding regional peace and stability.

The Liberal Democratic Party, Japan's ruling party, presented on Tuesday a revised draft to the country's current pacifist constitution.

In the draft, Japan's Self-Defense Forces were renamed Self-Defense Military and the words that deny Japan's possession of military forces and the right of belligerency of the state were deleted.
