Jihad asks PNA to release political prisoners
font size

A spokesman of the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) on Thursday asked the Palestinian National Authority ( PNA) to release all the Palestinian political prisoners.

The spokesman denounced in a website the PNA's arrest Wednesday night of 22-year-old Khalid Abu Daieh, the movement's activist in the West Bank city of Jericho.

He asked for immediate release of Abu Daieh, who has been transferred to Jericho prison, while accusing the PNA of serving Israel's interests.

The website also quoted Raed Abu Al Majd, an imprisoned Islamic Jihad member in Jericho prison, as saying that more than 20 members of the movement and the Al-Aqsa martyrs brigades, armed wing of the ruling Fatah movement, are imprisoned in Jericho jail.

Al Majd called on all factions to work together to ensure the release of political prisoners from the PNA's prison in Jericho.

Meanwhile, sources from the Islamic Jihad confirmed that seven members of the movement and 22 from the Al-Aqsa Brigades as well as seven from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine ( PFLP) are held in Jericho prison.

PFLP General Secretary Ahmed Sa'adat was also serving sentence over the charge of being responsible for the 2001 assassination of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze'evi.

Jericho prison is operated by the PNA, but it is under US and British security guard.
