Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi encourages the development of export processing zones to promote the transformation and upgrading of China's processing trade Thursday.
Addressing a conference on export processing zones held in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang Province, Wu said that five years of experiences with export processing zone operation prove that the decision of the central government to establish such zones in the middle of 1990's is right and effective.
Export processing zones are major media in promoting the country's processing trade, and they should become bases for modern service and processing of high technological and high added value products for the international market, she said.
According to Wu, China should establish and improve the approval and examination standards for its export processing zones. The local government should attach great importance to the application work and put into effect the projects, lands and funds.
