One more human case of bird flu confirmed in Vietnam: WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) said Friday that a further case of human infection with H5N1 bird flu has been confirmed in Vietnam.

The case is a 15-year-old boy from Hai Phong Provinc, who developed symptoms on Nov. 14 and was hospitalized on Nov. 16, the United Nations agency said in a statement.

The boy has been discharged from hospital and is recovering, WHO added.

Since mid-December 2004, Vietnam has reported 66 human cases of bird flu, of which 22 died.

The total number of human cases of bird flu worldwide since mid-December 2004 is 88, of which 36 were fatal. And since Dec. 26, 2003, the total number is 132, of which 68 were fatal.
