The world's leading mobile phone supplier Nokia will set up a mobile phone TV network in China and will continue to invest in China, said Nokia chairman and CEO Jorma Ollila at a technology seminar on China's 3G, or the third generation mobile technology.
Nokia sold 23 million mobile phones in China in the first nine months of this year, an increase of 77% over the same period of last year. About 95% of Nokia's staff are Chinese, Chinese people are playing more and more important role in our career. We are willing to set up research center in China, said Jorma Ollila.
Jorma Ollila predicts that Chinese mobile phone users will reach 630 million by 2010. By then, China will become world's largest mobile phone consumer.
According to Jorma Ollila, as 3G era is coming, Nokia mobile phone TV is predicted to have great popularity.
Although mobile phone TV involve some sensitive issues such as telecom or broadcasting division, Nokia is keen on developing the new product, which is estimated to be put to commercial use in 2008, said David Ho, president of Nokia China.
