Romania to build new railway wagons for Nigeria

A team of Romanian engineers will be in Nigeria next week to build new railway wagons for the west African country, a Romanian diplomat said on Wednesday.

Romanian Ambassador to Nigeria Emil Rapcea told reporters in Nigeria's capital Abuja that the experts would start by maintaining and repairing the old wagons at the major railway workshops.

The official News Agency of Nigeria quoted Rapcea as saying that under a contract signed with the ministry of transportation, equipment worth more than 4 million US dollars had been brought into Nigeria for the commencement of the project.

The ambassador said the terms of the contract also included training of local engineers to operate the system as part of efforts to revive the ailing railway system in Africa's most populous country.
