US soldier killed in Iraq

A US soldier died of wounds received by small arms fire in north of Baghdad, the US military said on Thursday.

"A Task Force Baghdad Soldier died as a result of a gunshot wound north of Baghdad Nov. 30," the military said in a brief statement.

The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

Over 2,100 US soldiers have been killed since the start of the US-led war on Iraq in March 2003.
