Public support strong for London 2012
font size

A recent survey has shown that two-thirds of Londoners believe there will be long term benefits in hosting the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

The study was carried out as part of the Association of London Government's (ALG) annual survey of the attitudes of people living in the capital.

Sixty eight percent of Londoners said the Games would have long-term benefits for people living in the capital. That percentage rose to seventy eight in the 18-34 age group.

Sir Robin Wales, the chair of the ALG, said: "Being the host of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is not just an honour, but provides the capital and all its residents with a whole host of exciting opportunities.

"I am glad that so many young people recognise this."

Meanwhile, London 2012 has continued to be recognized for its successful campaign in winning the right to host the 2012 Games.

At the Visit London Awards 2005, London 2012 won an award for outstanding contribution to the tourism industry.

A speech by London 2012 Chairman Lord Coe was broadcast at the awards ceremony, and the award was collected by double Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson OBE.
