A summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to be held this week in the holy city of Mecca aims to regain self-confidence for Islamic countries, a high-ranking Saudi official said on Sunday.
"The summit aims to regain a sense of self-confidence for the Islamic nation... and enable it to face the dangers which threaten it," said Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal.
The summit, to be held on Wednesday and Thursday, will bring together top leaders and senior officials of more than 50 OIC-affiliated countries, in addition to representatives of some international organizations.
The summit will discuss a series of regional development issues, especially the political and economic challenges that Islamic countries are facing.
"This summit comes as the Islamic society is living in grave circumstances because of the crises it is facing," said Prince Saud.
Two main documents are expected to be issued at the end of the meeting, said officials.
The first one is the Mecca Declaration, and the second a 10-year work program for overall OIC reforms.
