A huge explosion wrecked at predawn on Tuesday in Gaza City, apparently a result of an Israeli army strike on Gaza Strip targets, following an earlier suicide bombing attack in Netanya in northern Israel, killing at least five Israelis and wounding at least 50 others on Monday.
Palestinian security sources and witnesses said that the explosion was a result of targeting the Statue of the unknown soldier in Remal neighborhood in Gaza City.
The statue was built during late Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser in the late 1950s in the Gaza City.
It was destroyed when Israel occupied the Gaza Strip in 1967. But the Palestinian National Authority rebuilt it in 1995. The Statue is taking the shape of a soldier holding in one hand a rifle and pointing by the other at the direction of Jerusalem.
