Nobel prize awarding ceremony held in Stockholm

Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf (R) presents the Nobel Prize in Literature to Stephen Page who receives the award on behalf of British playwright Harold Pinter "who in his plays uncovers the precipice under everyday prattle and forces entry into oppression's closed rooms". The 75-year old Pinter is not present at the ceremony in Stockholm on Dec. 10 for health reasons.

A grand banquet is held at the City Hall of Stockholm on Dec. 10 after the awarding ceremony for the 2005 Nobel prize. 1,300 guests, including Nobel laureates, Swedish royal famility members and celebrities attend the banquet.

Nobel laureate in Physics Theodor Hansch talks with Swedish Crown Princess Victoria at the grand banquet at the City Hall of Stockholm on Dec.10. The awarding ceremony is held in Stockholm that day. This year's Nobel Prize in Physics is awarded to three scientists in the field of optics. Roy Glauber of Harward University is awarded half of the Prize for his theoretical description of the behaviour of light particles. US scientist John Hall and German scientist Theodor Hansch share the other half of the Prize for their development of laser-based precision spectroscope.

Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf (R) presents the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to Barry J. Marshall in Stockholm on Dec.10. Barry Marshall and J. Robin Warren win the prize for their discovery of "the bacterium Helicobacter pylori and its role in gastritis and peptic ulcer disease".
