The presidents of Mexico and those of the Central American Integration System (Sica) will meet on Monday and Tuesday at Cancun, on the Mexican Caribbean coast, to negotiate energy agreements for the region, Sica said in a statement on Sunday.
The leaders will discuss energy plans presented by Mexico to the Central American countries and the Dominican Republic, an associate member of Sica.
In November, Mexican President Vicente Fox announced an energy plan for Central America at the summit of the Organization of American States, which took place in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
Included in these projects is the construction of a heavy crude oil processing plant, a natural gas plant, a gas pipeline for Central America and a power plant to help complete the pipeline project to Guatemala.
The full members of Sica are Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. The Dominican Republic and Belize are associate members.
