An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale hit Pakistan and Afghanistan early Tuesday.

The earthquake at around 2:50 a.m. local time was felt in most part of Pakistan including entire Punjab, Islamabad, Ralwalpindi, Peshawar,Muzaffarabad, Mansehra, Balakot and Gilgit, according to a Radio Pakistan report.

Pakistani Meteorological Department Director Chaudhry Ghulam Rasool said that the epicenter was in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush areas.

This is the strongest earthquake since the Oct. 8 deadly earthquake.

Reports said that thousands of people ran out of their houses for safety in minus degree centigrade. But there are no immediate reports of any loss of life or property so far.

Several roads which were cleared after extreme efforts during last two months were again being blocked due to massive landsliding, according to the reports.

The earthquake was reported to be felt in New Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar and India-controlled Kashmir.
