Tibet Autonomous Region has invested 3.4 billion yuan (425 million US dollars) in key electric power projects, accounting for 88 percent of the region's total investment during China's 10th Five-Year plan (2001-2005) period, according to sources of Tibet Power Industry Bureau.

Among the investment, 2.3 billion yuan (288 million US dollars) goes to power supply projects and the combined installed capacity amounts to 188,500 kilowatts, said Liu Xiaoming, deputy head of the region's power industry bureau.

These power supply projects include Jinhe Hydropower Station with the installed capacity of 60,000 kilowatts and Zhikong Hydropower Station which has an installed capacity of 100,000 kilowatt and will produce electricity from next year.

During the Five-Year plan period, Tibet has launched four power network projects, with an input of 928 million yuan (116 million US dollars).

Among the investment in power network, 372 million yuan (46.5 million US dollars) is used for the power supply projects for the Qinghai-Tibet Railway construction, the first-ever rail route linking the Tibet autonomous region with China's interior areas.
