Korean Air has decided to buy aircraft engines worth more than 240 million US dollars from the US conglomerate General Electric (GE), the South Korean national carrier said in Hong Kong Wednesday.

"Korean Air has selected the GEnx engine to power the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft it ordered," the airlines said in a press release issued in Hong Kong. "It placed 10 firm orders and 20 options earlier."

The value of the firm engine orders is more than 240 million US dollars and the engine deliveries will begin in 2009.

With the new deal with Korean Air, the GEnx-style jet engines have been selected to power more than 220 aircraft, according to the data by GE.
