Ukraine president hopes to further ties with China

Ukraine adheres to the one-China principle, respects China's sovereignty and hopes to further ties with China, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said on Wednesday in Kiev.

Yushchenko made the remarks when new Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine Gao Yusheng presented credentials to him.

He said China and Ukraine have great potential of cooperation in the sectors of space technology, airplane manufacture, automobile manufacture, chemical industry and metallurgy, adding that the bilateral trade cooperation between the two countries can be further advanced.

He also expressed his gratitude for China's support in his country's WTO bid and hopes the bilateral market access agreement can be signed soon.

Ambassador Gao said the Chinese government values its relations with Ukraine and has attached great importance to cooperation with it.

He said the two countries have supported each other's stance over international issues of common concern and cooperated closely in international arena.

China appreciates the Ukrainian government's support for China over the issues of Taiwan and Tibet as well as on human rights issues, and takes the development of Sino-Ukrainian ties as a priority in its foreign policy.

Gao pledged China will always stick to the friendly relations with Ukraine and respect Ukraine's choice of development policy, support Ukraine's efforts to maintain its independence and sovereignty.
