The European Union (EU) summit is to condemn Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over his sensational remarks on Israel, a declaration to be issued by the summit said.
"The European Council condemns unreservedly President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's call for the eradication of Israel and his denial of the holocaust," said the draft version of the declaration Xinhua got on Thursday from a EU resource.
"These comments are wholly unacceptable and have no place in civilized political debate," said the draft declaration.
The EU summit, opened here on Thursday evening to strive to strike a deal on the 2007-2013 budget plan, will also issue declarations, or Council Conclusions in the EU's jargon, on external relations. As usual, middle east is heated issue in the document.
The EU leaders are also to call on Iran to join the international consensus on the need for a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israel conflict, to support the search for peace between Israel and its neighbors and to end support for groups which advocate or use violence.
The EU summit also set eyes on Iran's nuclear issue.
"The European Council is gravely concerned at Iran's failure to build confidence that its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful, "said the document.
The EU leaders are to threaten that "whether the EU's long-term relationship with Iran improves or deteriorates will depend on progress on all issues of concern," said the document.
The EU summit will, as usual, adopt the document with few or no alterations at the second day of the meeting.
