Freeway connecting China, ASEAN slated for service later this month
font size

Construction of a freeway connecting Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the No.1 highway of Vietnam, via Youyi Pass on the Sino-Vietnamese border has been completed.

The freeway, the first asphalt-and-cement expressway in Guangxi, will open to traffic on Dec. 26, said an official in charge of the project's construction in Guangxi.

The freeway began construction in 2002, with a cost of 3.71 billion yuan (about 458 million U.S. dollars). The four-lane freeway has a length of 179.2 km.

China shares a border with Vietnam in Guangxi. The operation of the freeway will cut the current four-hour travel time by half, said the official.
