Senior CPC official meets Uruguayan vice-president

Luo Gan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee, met Friday in MONTEVIDEO with Uruguayan Vice-President Rodolfo Nin Novoa.

Luo expressed his satisfaction with the development of Sino-Uruguayan relations that have progressed smoothly in the past 17 years of diplomatic ties, as well as his appreciation for the Uruguayan government's one-China policy.

He emphasized that the two countries should strengthen political mutual trust, economic and trade cooperation, scientific and technological exchanges and personnel contacts in a bid to further develop bilateral friendship and cooperation.

On party-to-party relations, Luo said the CPC will continue to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields with the Frente Amplio (FA) of Uruguay.

Novoa said since the two countries established diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have advanced continuously and will have broad prospects in the future.

He said the FA attaches importance to the CPC's experiences in achieving development and building up the party's governing capability,

and hopes to promote exchanges in this regard.

On bilateral economic and trade cooperation, Luo said the two sides should explore new cooperative fields and enhance two-way investment and technological cooperation.

He said he is convinced that bilateral economic and trade cooperation will score greater achievements with efforts from both sides.

Luo also said the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, will continue to make efforts with the Uruguayan parliament to push bilateral friendship and reciprocal cooperation to a new high.

Luo arrived here Thursday on a goodwill visit at the invitation of the Uruguayan government and the FA.

Uruguay is the second leg of Luo's visit to three Latin American countries. He has concluded a visit to Argentina and is also scheduled to visit Cuba.
