Saddam trial resumes in Baghdad

The trial of the former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein and seven of his codefendants resumed on Thursday.

It is in its seventh hearing session over the massacre of Dujail in 1982 where some 148 Shiite villagers killed.

On Wednesday, the trial of Saddam and his codefendants was adjourned after the court heard three witnesses over the Dujail massacre.

Saddam Hussein told the court that he had been tortured by the Americans since his capture in late 2003.

"I have been hit by the Americans and tortured," he said. "I've been beaten on every place of my body and the signs are all over my body."
