AMD China launched a promotional activity for its true dual-core processors in Haidian District, Beijing on Dec22.
According to a PR manger of AMD China, dual-core-based computers will become the mainstream in 2006. AMD is confident to move to a new height at the Chinese market. This is AMD's second "shock wave" following the release of 64-bit processor. AMD now grabs 20 percent of market share at laptop and server markets.
The dual-core technology is employed to break the limit on clock speed and enhance the performance of a computer. That is, one processor based on a die will feature two equally functional processor cores.
Intel had launched the first dual-core processor before AMD, but the testing tools and manufacturing process of them are still for single-core chip.
AMD claims its processor to be genuine dual-core and issued a challenge to its rival Intel two months ago. AMD announced it had been validated as the victor in its dual-core duel challenge.
Lenovo, Hewlett Packard and Ziguang have launched computer based on AMD dual-core processors, priced between 6,999 to 9,999 yuan. AMD dual processor is more advantageous at DIY market since users can replace their single-core chip with AMD dual-core processor without changing other parts in their computers.
