Int'l eco-tourism guide training concludes in Kathmandu

A week-long South Asia Sub- regional Eco-tourism guide training concluded in Kathmandu on Friday.

"A total of 22 participants including six each from Nepal, India and Bhutan and four from Bangladesh, took part in the training which was started from Dec. 16," Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) , a semi-government organization of Nepal, said in a press statement.

The training covered the area of eco-tourism in global as well as regional context, code of conduct, visitors and host awareness, campsite management, bird watching, adventure tourism, communication skills and effective guide techniques, the statement noted.

The NTB and the Asian Development Bank, under the aegis of South Asia Sub-regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC), in association with The Mountain Institute, a non-government organization of Nepal, organized the training.

SASEC region offers an array of holiday experiences ranging from Himalayan mountaineering and trekking, incomparable wildlife viewing, elephant safaries, bird watching, adventure trips including river rafting, mountain biking, ballooning, bungee jumping, canyoning, and carving to the deserts and beaches, the statement revealed.

"The training aimed towards imparting value to our existing tourism products and towards exploring the prospects of mutually beneficial and fulfilling partnerships in a day ahead," Govind Prashad Pandey, secretary of Nepali Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, said at the closing ceremony of the training.
