Iran raps US stance on nuclear issue
font size

Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Muttaki Monday in Kabul described Washington's stance vis- -vis Tehran's nuclear program as biased and slammed it.

"Our nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. Americans are lying in this regard," Manouchehr Muttaki told journalists here. Terming the U.S. attitude as nuclear apartheid, he said that Iran would resist highhandedness.

"How a logic that nuclear technology is good for the U.S. and not for others. This is a nuclear apartheid and we do not accept it," Muttaki emphasized.

Iran's controversial nuclear issue has prompted the United States and Europe to directly or indirectly negotiate with Tehran and try to convince the former to stop enriching uranium.

"We accept any proposal that recognizes Iran's right to enrich uranium in its soil," the Iranian top diplomat noted.

He also said that many countries were supporting the peaceful nuclear program of Iran, but he did not name them.

The Iranian foreign minister who arrived here on Monday morning will meet Afghan President Hamid Karzai and other Afghan officials during his stay here.
