China's Changshu to host 2006 FINA World Cup diving event

Changshu, a city of east China's Jiangsu province, will host the 15th FINA World Cup Diving meet from July 19-23, 2006, organizers announced in a press conference here on Monday.

About 300 divers and coaches from 30 countries and regions will participate in the biennial world top level diving meet.

The World Cup will set 10 events, including men's and women's one meter springboard, 3m springboard, 10m platform and synchro 3m springboard and synchro 10m platform.

It is the third time that China host the World Cup as in Shanghai 1985 and Beijing in 1993.

Qian Xianghong, director of the Changshu organizing committee, said:"We'd like to provide a perfect rehearsal for divers all over the world ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games."

As one of the diving powerhouse in the world, Chinese divers had wrapped up 93 golds from the previous World Cup.

"Our divers will try hard to take more victories in Changshu and break the 100-gold barrier!" Qian revealed.

Changshu had held the 14th World Women's Basketball Championships in 2002 and World Cup Water Skiing in 2004.
