Ukraine has withdrawn all troops from Iraq: defense ministry
font size

Ukraine has withdrawn all its troops serving in Iraq, the Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

The last 44 Ukrainian soldiers in Iraq, along with eight armored personnel carriers, left Iraq and arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday, a ministry statement said. The soldiers are due back in Ukraine by Friday.

"Not a single Ukrainian soldier remains on Iraqi soil," the statement said.

In one of the largest non-NATO military deployments in Iraq, Ukraine contributed 1,650 troops to the U.S.-led coalition. Eighteen Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 32 others were wounded.

The Ukrainian soldiers, under Polish command, were deployed in southern and central Iraq.
