Heavy snow kills four people in Turkey

Turkey's heavy snow have killed four people as roads across much of the country were cut and villages isolated by a cold weather, Turkish media reported on Tuesday.

One person died in the western province of Denizli while another two died in the province of Edirne in the country's northwest when they were caught in the snow.

A foreigner was also frozen to death and his body was found in Ipsala town of Edirne.

Meanwhile, there are 1,500 village roads in the east and the southeast of Turkey and central Anatolia remain blocked by snowfalls, though authorities have managed to reopen a further 1, 500 that were closed over the weekend, according to the report.

More than 900 village roads have also been blocked in the Black Sea region, and the worst affected areas are Trabzon, Giresun, Gumushane, Artvin, Bayburt, Bolu, Ordu, Samsun, Amasya, Elazig and Zonguldak.

Schools in many of the affected regions have been cancelled for the second day in succession.

The snow also damaged power supply in the city of Sirnak, while the Beytus district remain without power after heavy snowfalls brought down power lines.
