font size

International police organization Interpol on Wednesday issued an international wanted persons notice for leader of al-Qaida in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Interpol said in a statement it issued the Red Notice for the Jordanian-born al-Zarqawi at the request of Algeria, which has accused him of involving in the kidnapping and murder of two Algerian diplomats in Iraq in July 2005.

Al-Zarqawi is also wanted by authorities of Germany, Iraq and Jordan for sorts of terror activities, said Interpol.

Al-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for the triple suicide bombings in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on Nov. 9 that killed 60 people.

Earlier reports said Iraqi security forces detained Zarqawi last year but released him because they didn't realize who he was.

The notice will be distributed to all of Interpol's 184 members using the organization's global police communications system.
