One US soldier was killed when a roadside bomb hit his patrol in eastern Baghdad on Thursday, the US military said in a statement.
The statement did not provide further details about the attack, saying the incident is under investigation.
The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.
The death brought to more than 2,170 the number of US military personnel killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003, according to media tally.
