German Chancellor Angela Merkel published a letter Thursday calling on Germans to be united to take up challenges facing Germany and reestablish confidence in its economy.
In the letter entitled Let's Become Stronger Together, Merkel said that the gravest problem currently facing Germany was the high jobless rate, noting she could not live up with the fact that "there are so many men and women in our country who can not find a job".
The jobless rate in Germany has remained at around 11 percent, over 4.5 million people.
She said that the government has been creating conditions fit for the development of businesses and more people would be employed.
She called on the German people to trust in the strong will of her grand coalition government in solving problems and overcoming challenges, and to be confident in the reform and future of Germany.
The government soon would approve an emergency plan of investing more than 25 billion euros (30 billion U.S. dollars) to stimulate economic growth and boost employment, she said.
The letter would be carried in major German newspapers and magazines from Thursday till Jan. 2 on a government expense of 2. 95 million euros (about 3.5 million dollars), according to the Federal Press and Information Office.
