China names Olympic Games short track speed skating squad

China's first winter Olympic Champion Yang Yang (A) will spearhead the Chinese short track speed skating Olympic squad as the whole team expects one gold in the Turin Olympics.

Yang Yang, who clinched China's first ever winter Olympic gold medals in women's 500m and 1,000m in 2002, is planning to compete in the women's 1000m and 1500m in Turin.

"It's my third time to parcitipate in the winter Olympics but I felt no pressure at all this time. I only want to enjoy the Games and collect more wonderful experience," Yang said after training on Thursday.

However, for the Chinese team, just enjoying the Games is not enough. Winning one gold medal is their main task.

"We have advantage in women's 500m and men's 500m, but the opponents from South Korea, the United States and Canada are quite strong," headcoach Xin Qingshan said.

"Yang Yang and another veteran Li Jianjun have got ready to compete, and we are confident to clinch one gold medal," Xin added.

Chinese short track speed skating team also named the squad for the winter Olympics in Turin from February 10-26.

Li Jiajun, Li Ye, Sui Baoku, Wang Baojian.
