China celebrates New Year holiday and ready for Spring Festival

Chinese red lanterns and the 420-meter high Shanghai Jinmao Tower, the highest in China and the third highest in the world, set each other off wonderfully for the New Year and the Spring Festival holidays. The whole Shanghai city is radiant with happiness.

Streets in Harbin city, northeast China's Heilongjiang province, are decorated with lanterns and streamers for the 2006 New Year holiday. An ice sculpture representing "luck and fortune" catches eyes of people.

A little girl hangs up a red paper hot pepper in Shangyu, Zhejiang Province, on Dec. 29. Some 300 pupils learn to make dumplings and the paper-cut from their parents and teachers for a traditional Chinese new year holiday.
