Nepal records zero fatality in aviation in 2005

The year 2005 created a new history in the field of civil aviation with zero fatality from Jan. 4, 2005, to Jan. 4, 2006, a high official at Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal disclosed here Thursday.

This fact will remove the impact of negative propaganda about Nepal in other parts of the world, which has hampered the tourism sector in the country, State Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yankila Sherpa told a seminar.

She congratulated and thanked all the concerned for their important efforts to make air travel safe in this country.

Experts also shared the view that the proper maintenance of aircraft, strictly adhering to the rules and regulations, well equipped and maintained airport facilities, as well as timely and reliable information on the weather are the major factors for the reduction of accident rates.

In Nepal, there were two fatal accidents in 2002 involving commercial traffic with 22 fatalities, down to one with two fatalities in 2003. In 2004, there were three fatalities with one fatal accident, according to the official.
