With a 220-kilovolt electricity transmission project under construction in Yunnan, this southwest China province is expected to send 1 million kw of electricity to Vietnam by 2010.

The 220-kilovolt Sino-Vietnamese power transmission project, located in the Honghe Hani-Yi Autonomous Prefecture, will have a 258-km-long transmission line and the project will be completed at a cost of 350 million yuan (43.2 million US dollars).

The starting point of the transmission line, the 220-kilovolt Datun Electricity Transformer Substation, has been completed and went into operation in November 2005, according to the Yunnan Power Grid Company.

A source with the company said Yunnan will send power to Vietnam through the 220-kilovolt transmission project on Oct. 1 this year.

Yunnan began sending electricity to Vietnam in 2004. To date, the province has sent 377 million kwh of electricity to Vietnam.
