Two U.S. soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb blast in Baghdad on Thursday, the U.S. military said on Friday.

"Two soldiers, assigned to Task Force Baghdad, were killed when an improvised explosive device hit their vehicle while patrolling in Baghdad area on Jan. 5," the military said in a statement.

The names of the killed soldiers were being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

The latest deaths have brought the death toll of U.S. military personnel in Iraq to about 2,190 since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.
