font size

Pakistan is investigating reports about American helicopters attack in the country's tribal region, where locals claimed that eight persons died in U.S. attack on a house early Saturday, according to an army spokesman.

Pakistan army spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan said that investigation had been started about the attack reports as to where the incident had happened.

"We have received reports of some casualties," the army spokesman said. He did not give any more details.

Locals were quoted in the press reports as saying that eight persons died and seven other people were injured in the attack on the Saidgey border area, some 12 kilometers from Miran Shah, the headquarters of North Waziristan.

They said that U.S. helicopters bombed the house of one person named Haji Noor Muhammad at 3 a.m. local time, killing two children, a woman and five other civilians.

They said that soldiers from the other side of the border crossed into Pakistani territory and took away five local tribesmen.

Pakistan has deployed some 70,000 soldiers in tribal region along its border with Afghanistan to check cross-border movement of militants.

Hundreds of al-Qaeda suspects have fled U.S.-led operation in Afghanistan and are believed to be hiding in Pakistan remote tribal region.
