Mild quake shakes Egyptian capitalA mild earthquake shook the Egyptian capital Cairo on Sunday, causing no casualties or major damage to buildings, witnesses said. The tremor occurred at around 1:45 p.m. local time (1145 GMT), and continued for several seconds. A strong earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale, rattled Greece on Sunday, according to the Athens National Observatory. The quake occurred at 13:35 (1135 GMT) and the epicenter was located in the deep sea near the Crete Island, about 200 km south of Athens, the observatory said. The quake was also felt in Egypt and other countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. A Xinhua reporter in Athens said the quake lasted for dozens of seconds. Source: Xinhua |
