General Motors Corp. reported outstanding achievements in China in 2005, with auto sales standing at 665,400 units,ranking the first among the transnational automakers in the country, Beijing News reported on Monday.
The sales were an increase of 35.2 percent year on year, the report said, adding that latest statistics showed that GM' market share in China, the world's fastest growing auto market, also topped the list, putting an end to German automaker Volkswagen's many years of domination in this regard.
The Shanghai GM, a Sino-US joint venture, said it sold 325,400 vehicles in 2005, up 28.7 percent year on year, overtaking the Shanghai Volkswagen to become the champion in terms of auto sales.
While GM's venture in Guangxi said it sold 337,200 cars last year, an increase of 43.4 percent.
