Labor unions at all levels will try to recruit six million members from migrant workers in 2006, according to an official with All-China Federation of Trade Unions.
China now has more than 150 million labor union members. All-China Federation of Trade Unions plans to expand its membership by over 10 million this year, a great number of whom will be coming from workers in non-public-owned enterprises and migrant workers.
Six million migrant workers are expected to join in the union.
According to statistics published by All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the number of migrant workers in China has exceeded 120 million, mostly in non-public-owned enterprises. Migrant workers represent 71 percent of all the workers in the construction industry but only 13.8 percent of them have joined the labor union.
