The Indonesian police on Thursday held eight suspects in the August 2002 ambush that left two U.S. school teachers and an Indonesian dead in the easternmost province of Papua..
The suspects were held in the provincial police headquarters in Jayapura after being flown from the town of Timika, where the killing took place, reported the official Antara news agency.
Police said there are 12 suspects in the ambush, four of them were being detained in Timika. They were expected to arrive at Jayapura later in the day, it said.
Papua provincial police chief Tonny Yacobus has confirmed the arrest of the suspects, it said.
The ambush also injured 12 people, who like the dead were all employees of the US mining firm Freeport in Papua.
