Ningbo, a major trade port in east China's Zhejiang Province, sold abroad 246,700 mobile phones for 18.3 million U.S. dollars in 2005, up 57.3 percent and 110 percent respectively from the previous year.

According to local customs sources, of the total, 137,000 cell phones were exported in general trade, down 10.8 percent from a year earlier; and 109,600 were sold in processing trade, 35.5 times more than the year-earlier level.

A majority of 229,600 of the exports were sold to Hong Kong SAR, making up 93.1 percent of the total, the sources said.

Exports by non-state enterprises jumped as much as 42.2 times to 129,600 cell phones, the sources added.
